Did you know that the leading causes of death among Latinx include heart disease and cancer and that Latinx are 50 percent more likely to die from diabetes than whites.
Latinx also have high rates of obesity (an estimated 47%) and diabetes (12.1%) in the U.S., according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Diabetes is the seventh-leading cause of death in the U.S. and afflicts people of color at higher rates, according to the CDC and the American Diabetes Association (ADA).
Among the Latinx community, Mexican Americans and Puerto Ricans have the highest rates of diabetes,
- Mexican: 13.8 percent
- Puerto Rican: 12 percent
- Cubans: 9 percent)
- Central and South Americans: 8.5 percent
As ongoing research continues to develop, our goal at Kamino Care is to improve the wellbeing of Latinx people not only in the US and in Latin America but also across the world.
With the rapid speed of technological advances combined with a more globalized and connected world; our team at Kamino Care has brought together the brightest minds from across the nation to work together in an effort to bring innovation and wellbeing to our community.
Although state-funded organizations and local communities have done a decent job in providing health-related services, there’s so much more that can be done. Mainly in the areas of technology advancements and innovation for underserved communities.
At Kamino Care, we believe smartr lifestyle choices, beginning with diet, is one of the most important steps to living longer and healthier. And this is where we are beginning.
Te deseo buena salud y felicidad siempre!

Like many Latinos here in the United States, I grew up celebrating Día de la Madres twice. Many of my Latinx friends that I know also do the same. It’s a tradition that stems from our culture. There’s nothing more special than honoring our moms. How can we forget all the delicious food she would cook for us growing up? From huevos rancheros in the morning to pozole on a warm sunny day.
This Día de la Madres try cooking for your mom and family the following healthy plates.
- Sheet-Pan Chicken Fajitas (Fajitas de pollo en sartén)
- Chilaquiles Casserole
- Firehouse Enchiladas (Enchiladas De Bomberos)

Hello everyone 👋🏾,,
Our story begins at a time when a young boy is asked to translate for his mother who only spoke Spanish and was diagnosed with diabetes type-2.
During this time, the young boy had a hard time translating since he didn’t understand the medical terms the doctor was using. He felt useless since he loved and cared for his mom’s health.
After a few years, that young boy grew up, went to college, and graduated with flying colors. Although that was the case, he never forgot his mother’s experience at the doctors. He sought to make a change, to bridge the gap between wellbeing and people that looked like his mother and himself.
My name is Heber Miguel but I go by the name of Heber Michaels, in a different post I’ll talk about the implicit bias within the US healthcare system.
I have made it a life goal to bridge the gap between well-being and everyone that doesn’t fit the average US demographics.
To better help my mom and her struggle with diabetes, I sought out healthcare providers that could relate with her in two ways; language and cuisine. Like many of you know, the Latin cuisine is different from that of the United States.
Through my search, I was able to find a provider that both spoke Spanish and understood the Spanish cuisine so my mom didn’t have to change what she was used to eating while combating diabetes.
After seeing how my mom’s health was improving, I knew I had to replicate this in the town I grew up in, across the nation, and around the world.
That’s exactly what our team in Kamino Care has done.
At Kamino Care, we’re paving a new path to wellbeing. Our goal is to help every Latinx individual in the United States and across the world.
As of late, we’ve launched our version 2.0 on both the Apple Store and Android Store. You can download it now for free and also get a free 30 minutes session with one of our providers who fully understands the Latin cuisine and culture.
I hope you enjoy it! As always any feedback is much appreciated.
Thank you,
Heber
